Recently Ncube Digital had a need for a bandwidth limiter.
After searching numerous websites Ncube Digital came across "Traffic Shaper XP" from www.bandwidthcontroller.com, the product seemed to have great reviews and did what it said on the tin, unfortunately after a week or so Ncube Digital noticed that the program also had some odd side effects. In this article Ncube Digital review the software giving a full account of the features and side effects of the software.
First Ncube Digital would like to give an introduction to the software by quoting the blurb from the programs website...
"Bandwidth Controller is a complete traffic shaping package for Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server. It allows network administrators to limit internet usage in real-time using a high performance processing core.
The bandwidth manager can be installed on each computer on the network or deployed centrally on a gateway or internet server. Not only does this help to save bandwidth but it also provides a network free of congestion caused by large downloads, P2P, games and video streaming.
The built-in bandwidth meter makes it possible to view all bandwidth usage with the option to limit each connection separately. Traffic streams are allocated by the manager using a system of fair sharing so that each computer is given equal access to the internet resource. Time-sensitive data such as VoIP is prioritized over other traffic, maintaining a high quality of service for important applications."
The Ncube digital review of this software isn't great unfortunately. On the "tin" this product seems to have all the capabilities that you would want from a bandwidth limiter, it has a nice easy installation, is "fairly" simple to use, even for a novice and when enabling a rule the bandwidth is limited.
The software unfortunately has its drawbacks which Ncube Digital discovered. Firstly the "limiting" isn't really the best or most precise method. For those of you who have used a half decent ftp client or news group client, their built in limiters are great. the bandwidth will climb until it reaches its peak then the limiter kicks in and steadily holds that speed within a couple of Kb/s. Traffic Shaper XP on the other hand will climb rapidly, hit its limit (or 10-20Kb/s above the limit frequently) then drops down or stops completely until those packets are received or sent before climbing again, meaning as an average (based on a 100Kb/s limit) your speed is actually around 60Kb/s and is far from smooth. The product does do what it says though in so much as it limits your bandwidth.
The main issue with this software though is not the clunky limiting mechanism, or even the fact that it actually ends up limiting the speed below what you set it at, the main issue is that, for example, on an 8Mbit connection even when all rules are disabled and it has no limits set, you actually get between 2-3Mbit slower, even when ending the process that runs the software in the background. General LAN speed is also greatly diminished meaning if you are on a business or home network and are transferring files etc you get nowhere near the full potential of your LAN/WLAN.
All in all if limiting is something you really need then go for it, however if it is just occasional limiting that you require, ncube digital would not recommend this product at all.

The BD550 is a new entry level Blu-ray Player from LG. One of four new players LG is introducing in 2010. The BD550 is the least expensive, with a price range of under $200.00. It is very similar to the BD570 model. The big difference between the two is that this model does not have any Wi-Fi options. However, the BD550 is equipped with some great features and has a very reasonable price tag.
Like all of LG's line up of Blu-ray Players this year, the BD550 has a slim and sleek looking design, with a black finish. The disc loading tray and the control panel buttons are located on the front of the player. All other connections are at the rear of the player. There is an Ethernet Port to connect to the internet, but no Wi-Fi capability. If you are looking to go wireless with your Blu-ray Player, you will have to look else where. Both of LG's new models the BD570 and the BD590 have Wi-Fi capabilities.
Video Quality: The LG BD550 has very good picture quality for an entry level Blu-ray Player. The video connections are located on the back. You can use one of the following to connect the video: HDMI, Component or Composite Video Outputs. On the "tin" this product seems to have all the capabilities that you would want from a bandwidth limiter, it has a nice easy installation, is "fairly" simple to use, even for a novice and when enabling a rule the bandwidth is limited.
The software unfortunately has its drawbacks which Ncube Digital discovered. Firstly the "limiting" isn't really the best or most precise method. For those of you who have used a half decent ftp client or news group client, their built in limiters are great. the bandwidth will climb until it reaches its peak then the limiter kicks in and steadily holds that speed within a couple of Kb/s. Traffic Shaper XP on the other hand will climb rapidly, hit its limit (or 10-20Kb/s above the limit frequently) then drops down or stops completely until those packets are received or sent before climbing again, meaning as an average (based on a 100Kb/s limit) your speed is actually around 60Kb/s and is far from smooth. General LAN speed is also greatly diminished meaning if you are on a business or home network and are transferring files etc you get nowhere near the full potential of your LAN/WLAN.
All in all if limiting is something you really need then go for it, however if it is just occasional limiting that you require, ncube digital would not recommend this product at all.

Many professions currently use simulators to deliver training in an attempt to improve safety and improve performance.

The purpose of simulation training is to put the trainee in situations that are as realistic as possible in order to provide them with experience, risk free. If a trainee makes a mistake in a simulator, there is no chance of a loss of life, or damage to property.
The obvious setback to this form of training is the fact that the cost to purchase a machine for any industry presents a significant investment.

If you are in the market for a product that will teach you to drive race cars, than your finances will feel it at a cost of about $200,000. What about the simulators they use at NASA? Priced out of this world, literally.

The Review on Ping G15 Drivers Part A
Among the giants of the golf industry, PING has always remained one of the quietest in the business. You never see commercials on TV. They only have a select number of pros which they endorse. They rarely even release new clubs. It seems like the word "hype" just isn't a part of PING's vocabulary. But something felt different when PING announced it would release two entirely new lines of clubs. PING actually seemed excited. In fact, PING was going out of their way to tell anyone and everyone that would listen that its new clubs had monumental improvements. Even if you didn't like PINGs in the past, you start to wonder, what did they come up with? After putting the driver through a full battery of tests it has certainly made an impression on me.
Design and Technology
Like its predecessor, the G15 is a 460cc titanium driver meant for golfers seeking maximum forgiveness. This is where the similarities end, however.
The G15 is probably the most forgiving driver - on all types of mis-hit - that PING has ever created. The G15 has numerous technological improvements over the G10. The G15 attains a higher MOI by lengthening the head from front to back. Additionally, a 7% larger face increases ball speed and provides consistency across the entire hitting surface. Lastly, weight savings from the ultra thin crown are positioned as an external sole weight to optimize the center of gravity for higher trajectories and reduced spin.
Weight saved by using an ultra-thin crown aids the forgiveness with unique sole weighting. The improvements don't end at the clubhead though. The new PING TFC 149D shaft allows for a five gram increase in head mass without increasing swingweight or overall weight. All of these seemingly small changes should result in higher ball speeds and an increase in MOI.
Esthetics
I would count myself among one of the many golfers who have loved the way that PINGs feel but were less than inspired by their looks (remember the PING TiSi, anyone?). With the G15, and for the first time, PING's esthetics may have matched their technology.
Although PING did not change the crown finish for the G15, there are two noticeable differences between the PING G15 and G10 at address. First, PING abandoned the half moon alignment aid of the G10 in favor of a sleek yet subtle red arrow which first appeared on the PING Rapture. Second, lengthening the club from front to back to increase MOI makes the driver look more triangular in shape than the G10. Overall, I found the simplicity of the new look crown to be improvements over the G10.
The sole of the G15 is what I would consider among PING 's greatest improvements. The chrome treatment on the sole isn't new but the technical changes gave PING the ability to make significant esthetic changes. Rather than rubbing your face in the fact that there is a ton of new technology, PING 's red, black and chrome paint treatment highlights the technology while remaining understated. Esthetically, the hitting area remained nearly identical to the G10 with white groves and a v-shaped grooveless sweet spot. The only difference, for which you would have to be looking to notice, is a sightly larger face.
With a black crown, a silver, black and red sole, PING chose to continue the color scheme to their shafts. While there is a slight difference in color between the two stock shafts both shafts are shades of red and grey.
Although the word classic never came to mind when I was looking at the PING, the engineers' new appreciation of subtlety has made the PINGa much cleaner and simpler looking club. Personally, I find this to be a dramatic improvement.
